  1. I live in Boone, NC, at around 4300′ elevation. There are wild elderberries growing byt the roadside and on the ridge above me. I would like to grow a few bushes in my garden. What variety would you suggest for my location? We get a lot of snow and wind up here.

    BTW, I was introduced to elderberries in New Zealand where my British friends made jam and wine from them. They are wonderful! I often laugh at our American ways…we overlook some real treasure when we treat elderberries as weeds!

    • I live in the Piedmont of NC near chapel hill. I will be traveling through Boone tomorrow on my way to a speaking engagement for Rural Action in Bristol TN/VA. Most of our varieties will do OK, some better than others. Adams, Ranch or Bob Gordon would be good choices as would Magnolia. It’s origin is NC.
